In the past my school experiences have always been very positive, especially in elementary school in terms of my teachers. Even now I can still think back to all of my elementary teachers and how they always made me feel welcomed and excited to come to school. From the grades three to six I attended an Arts school, that I absolutely loved! Our core curricular objectives were taught through various subjects such as Art, Dance, Music, and Drama, in combination with traditional classroom work and settings. I greatly enjoyed how my teachers incorporated our learning over multiple subjects. In the future, I hope to do this for my students as well. One of my absolute favourite teachers, Mrs. Latta, was very open and kind hearted, which I believe to be strong qualities in a teacher. I remember always feeling comfortable talking to her about anything whether it had to do with school work or issues at home. Mrs. Latta also had great classroom management. Both her and the students had respect for one another which created a very accepting and inclusive classroom community. She also did a good job of establishing plans for the day and maintaining control of the classroom. This helped the class feel safe and that things were always going to plan. She will always remain a role model of mine through my journey to becoming a strong educator.
